The lay-up technology is based on the implementation of fibers fabrics (glass, aramid, carbon, …) first impregnated with a resin (epoxy, phenolic,…).

The use of prepreg fabrics enables to manufacture :
extremely high performance and reliable finished structures, given the mechanical characteristics of the basic materials and the control operations carried out on semi-finished products to be used in the lay-up operations.
Local reinforcements by degressive lay-up, the geometry and position of which are much more accurate than with the contact moulding technique
Sandwich honeycomb core structures.

Nevertheless, this technology requires metal tooling enabling vacuum curing at temperatures over 120°C.

Full control of both design and parts industrialization is requested to reach the mechanical performances at the lowest cost.

EADS Composites Aquitaine is equipped with substantial technical facilities and skills for manufacturing monolithic or sandwich parts coming from prepreg fabrics. Curing is performed in ovens, press or autoclaves depending on the nature of the parts to be manufactured.
